NCS Product Synopsis
Update: March 31, 2005

«©NCSX» A self-professed boring 14-year old student named Tanaka Yukio wonders if his life is meant to be as drab and regular as it is. While peeping at girls in swimsuits with a fellow student, his gaze falls upon Izumi Higashi who was a childhood friend but they lost touch over the years. Now that she's grown to become a woman, Yukio's eyes nearly pop out of his skull when he spies her in a bikini. Soon after, a group of girls at the pool notice the peeping pair and threaten them with bodily harm. Both boys vamoose. That same day while walking home, Yukio gets pummeled by a pair of toughs trying to sell a fake watch to a granny. After his beating, he encounters a bunch of kids about to pounce on a dog that looks like a patchwork quilt of of different canine parts named Beck. Yukio is about to intervene when the dog's owner Ryusuke shuffles along and the kids scramble. Fast forward and Yukio, Ryusuke, and Izumi begin hanging out together and listen primarily to western music. Ryusuke's goal is to start his own band but he needs a singer capable of belting out the tunes. Little does he know that Yukio's hidden talents will soon emerge with the help of a rabid sensei named Saitou-san who was once an Olympic athlete. Saitou teaches Yukio guitar strumming skills and gives him the confidence needed to eventually become a rock god. Eventually, Ryusuke and Yukio join forces to form a band named after a dog dubbed Beck...

In the PS2 Beck game, Yukio Tanaka serves as the protagonist and the unlikely manga hero goes through the motions as dictated by the source material. New and exclusive chapters have been tacked on as adjuncts to the main story which may be experienced as Yukio stumbles through the interactive scenarios. When it's time for action, the screen shifts to a rhythm based guitar strumming action game where cues must be hit in time in order to progress further. Competitions between different bands are also par for the course where the band Beck battles against rivals. Success or defeat is gauged by the excitement level of the crowd.
