NCS Product Synopsis
Update: December 1, 2006
«©NCSX» The popularity of the Digimon series continues unabated in Japan with Bandai and Fuji TV kicking off the fifth television series earlier this summer. In the first episode, Agumon meets up with a young thug named Daimon Masaru who hails from Otori Municipal Junior High School. After a heated battle, the two find themselves evenly matched and become friends. The new dynamic duo eventually teams up with a couple of DATS operatives named Yoshino Fujieda and Tohma Norstein.

In the PS2 Digimon Savers game, Daimon and Agumon leads the cast of characters with Fujieda teaming up with her Raramon and Tohma is coupled with Gaoman. The original storyline in "Another Mission" follows the adventures of the heroes as they tackle the machinations of the Seven Great Demon Lords. In Digimon mythos, the Demon Lords are comprised of Digimon which represent the Seven Deadly Sins of man: Envy, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Pride, Sloth, and Wrath. Players start the game with Daimon and Agumon who are trekking around on a sunny island where dangerous enemy Digimon roam and attack in randomly generated encounters. The first battle is against a purple tadpole Digimon.

NCS Game Notes
» In the intro to the game, clouds and a shining sun appear. The camera drifts downwards and across a tree covered area with a thundering waterfall to the side. Daimon, Fujieda, and Tohma walk into view with their respective partner Digimons. A demonic beast flies downwards and lands. The crew is then shown wielding Digi-vices and the Digimon digi-volve into their mega-mighty alter-egos which are more imposing than their squat regular forms. They face off against the blue horned demon as Daimon, Fujieda, and Tohma jump in front and roar. The three Digimon then unleash their attacks.

» Start a new game and players are at DATS with a purple haired woman who has a message. A blonde girl appears with another message and a spinning column of light appears with a luminous shaft in the center. After a while, the column of light disperses and an androgynous looking guy named Daimon Masaru appears. In the next scene, a column of light drops from the skies and deposits Daimon into a seaside area with trees. Agumon is with him and control is handed over to the player.

» Run around a bit and an encounter eventually starts with a purple amphibious creature (looks like a tadpole) with teeth that poke outside of its maw. Daimon holds out his Digi-vice and Agumon is summoned from within. Agumon talks a little bit, waves its arms in a windmill move and a "Battle Drive" starts. The battlefield shows Agumon and the creature facing off against each other as the camera rotates around the two combatants. Four main options are available: Action, Guard, Escape, and Support but a bevy of other selections are located behind the main options in red-colored capsule placards.

» To attack, select ACTION and then press the O button when the camera focuses on the enemy. Agumon will then level a blast from its mouth that knocks 30+ HP from the creature's life bar. The creature dies after three attacks and leaves behind a blue-striped egg.

» After the first battle, Agumon and Daimon stand around and receive a call from DATS where the blonde and purple-haired girl communicate a message to the two. Throughout the game, DATS will call in on the hero to update missions and offer information.

» There's no way to rotate the camera around but you can focus in and out of the main character's position by moving the R-Analog up and down to get a better look at his surroundings while traveling.

» Due to the way the battle system is structured, one on one battles can take up to 3 minutes to play out since every attack, projectile blast, and counter attack is depicted in fluid animation sequences where the camera pans back and forth between the two opponents. .

» If Agumon is killed during a battle, the game ends immediately. There are no second chances.

» The graphics are cel-shaded and look great with well defined creatures and backgrounds

» When a battle starts, the hero stops moving and a black screen appears with honeycomb background and the words "Battle Drive" appear. The enemy is then shown flying or flapping and Agumon generally gets to attack first. When an enemy is killed, it freezes in mid-air for about 2 seconds before exploding into a crisp column of light. The first few enemies are simple except for the bat-winged purple creature with red talons on its feet which can cast musical spells and attack twice in sequence.

» In the first episode of the fifth Digimon television series, Agumon is wheezing and huffing hard as he escapes from DATS through Kouan area B01. Sirens sound and the staff of DATS quickly seal the facility and send Fujieda Yoshino to engage him.

» Yoshino is a red-eyed brunette who talks to the police cordoning off the area when she receives a call indicating 13 human bodies ahead of her current position. She runs forward and spies the fallen bodies crumpled on the ground. She continues further and sees Agumon whom she refers to as "Raptor-1" facing off against a lad in a red shirt and blue jeans. The two are about to fight. Yoshino stands in her tracks as the lad threatens Raptor-1 about barging in on his turf. We're guessing he doesn't realize the difference between street thugs and a monster like Agumon. He soon proclaims himself as "The number one street fighter in Japan, Daimon Masaru-sama!"

» Yoshino is amused by Masaru's boast and is bewildered by Raptor-1's talking. Yoshino yells out to tell Masaru that he can't fight the Raptor-1 and the people at DATS are also puzzled by the hijinx about to take place including captain Satsuma. The two clash and bounce off of each other and struggle to their feet. They're nonchalant but both find themselves evenly matched. After a few kicks, punches, and sparring, Yoshino stands there looking at the two as if they were aliens. Later, both are exhausted on the floor and congratulate each other on some good fighting skills. Agumon raises its paw up Masaru grasps it with his own. Agumon then introduces himself and the two become friends. Yoshino breaks in on the brotherly love, lifts up her Digivice and summons Raramon which is a creature that looks like a jellyfish with an inverted jelly-like flower for a head. Agumon tells Masaru that Yoshino's there to capture him so he lifts Agumon on his back and tries to run off. Raramon shoots out little barbs from its mouth but Agumon fires back with a burst of flame and escapes.

» Daimon Masaru is a 14 year old thug from Otori Municipal Junior High School, 2nd year student.

» DATS stands for Digital Accident Tactics Squad. The job of DATS is to control and corral Digimon from the Digital World.

» Afumon evolves into GeoGreymon

» The Emotional Command System in Digimon Savers improves the battle performance of party members if their affinity to each other is strong.

» The voice actors from the television series provide the speech for the dialogue in the game.
