NCS Product Synopsis
Update: June 29, 2007

«©NCSX» Invitations in white envelopes sealed with a crimson imprint are sent out once again, calling upon the world's mightiest fighters to join the eleventh King of Fighters tournament. Familiar faces such as KOF stalwarts Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami are joined by nine fighters such as Mai Shiranui, Tung Fu Rue, and Magaki that are new to the PS2 version of KOF XI. PS2 exclusive game modes include Endless Mode and Challenge Mode which features 40 mini fighting games. A Gallery Mode brims with full-color artwork and sketches while gamers in search of a challenge may hook up with other fighters in the Network Match Mode. Two new systems are introduced in KOF XI - the first is the Judgment System which decides the winner not by the amount of HP remaining but by the quality of your attacks and combinations. The second new system is the use of Skill Stocks which deplete when evasive moves are pulled off.

Upon starting the game, 33 fighters are shown in the character selection screen which are grouped in four batches of six along with a batch of nine in the middle of the screen. After selecting three fighters and designating team leader and order of battle, a match starts. Movement may be directed with either the D-pad or L-analog stick.

» Press START and the following selections appear:
ARCADE PLAY / Standard arcade mode versus COM or a second player
TEAM PLAY / Choose three fighters and battle against other squads
SINGLE PLAY / Select a single fighter and battle through the ranks
ENDLESS / Select a single fighter and fight opponent after opponent in single match bouts
CHALLENGE / A total of 40 mini-games which present various fighting challenges
PRACTICE / Test your skills against a dummy opponent

NETWORK MATCH / Go online and battle
GALLERY / Enjoy 76 pieces of KOF artwork
GAME OPTION / Set difficulty, key configs, sound settings, graphic settings, character settings, save/load.

» In the Character Settings option, the colors of the characters may be changed along with the colors of their special blast attacks. The Graphic settings option is for adjusting the size and location of the screen.

» The Gallery features 40 pieces of character artwork (all must be unlocked) and 36 pieces of ART WORK which feature the various characters from the game in assorted settings. There are also six sketches of production art and one striking image of Oswald. All of the ART WORK is viewable from the outset.

» At the start of every match, players select the team leader and then the order of battle by pressing the face buttons that correspond to each fighter. Select the team leader and 2 characters and battle in standard KOF 3-on-3 challenges.

» Controls are responsive - note that either the D-pad or the L-analog stick on a Dual Shock 2 may be used for control. The animation of the fighters as they range around the screen is smooth.

» The blood runs ruddy.

» Kula, the ice princess, says "bye-bye" after winning a bout.

Update: Original NCS Preorder Soliciation
«©NCSX» Invitations fly out to the usual gang of fighters and many familiar faces answer the call for another KOF tournament. Mai Shiranui boycotts the latest "Mother of All Fighting Games" but a trio of new faces and Duck King from the old school join the ranks in SNK Playmore's upcoming Atomiswave to PS2 conversion. The fighting systems in play have been updated with Skill Stocks, Dream Cancels, a blowback move that deserves its own button, and other newfangled changes that will provide grist for gamers to chew through, execute and master.

Region Lock-out
Please note Japanese Playstation 2 games will not boot on USA or European PS2 consoles due to the inherent region-lockout on Playstation 2 game discs.
