Take control of Jack (pronounce it Jackuh) Russell and friends Ridley Timberlake, Gantz Rothchild, Lenard Ford, and others. The crew stakes out on an adventure of discovery and hundred-fold camaraderie - Tri-Ace touts up to 300 characters that may be met along the quest and roughly 100 of them may be invited to join your party for side-by-side fighting against foes. Battles in Radiata hearken back to the system found in Star Ocean where a lead character is controlled directly while backup support is offered by computer controlled teammates. The first battle we tried this morning was haphazard...but we're learning. Teams may also be formed in various positions for linking attacks or setting up special abilities. Powerful attacks may also be ignited for local area conflagrations and blasts.

* A 2-headed dragon is snarling hot breath while a warrior rests on his sword. The dragon shoots a volley of ice crystals at the warrior but he fends them off and performs a running attack. One of the dragon's heads fires off a maelstrom of energy at the oncoming warrior but he seemingly breaks through... scene change. Jack Russell wakes up and asks his sister Adele where breakfast is. Adele scolds him that this is the big day and asks why he isn't more excited. She then tells him to go outside.

* Later Adele gives Jack his father's sword called the Arbitrator and tell him that he'll become great one day. He has to pass the knight selection trials to be on his way. Jack rushes out the door towards Radiata Castle to take the trials and become just like his father who was a great warrior. In the warring room in the castle, a bunch of aspiring knights are sitting down when a Heavy Guardsman enters and announces that the trials are about to begin. He sends two contestants to the colisseum. The next match is between Jack and a girl named Ridley Silverlake. Disappointed that he has to face a girl, Jack enters the colisseum for the knights elimination tournament. Points are earned for every hit and a knockout determines the winner immediately.

* Despite what Jack does in the trial battle against Ridley Silverlake, Ridley will beat him handily. It's a pre-determined outcome. Jack will however still be chosen as a knight because of his father Cairn Russell who is legendary in the Radiata court and Jack's inner potential to become a great force for the Radiata Knights.

* Once joined, Jack Russell shares a room with a muscular, bowl-haircut-adorned warrior named Leonard. Inside the castle, Jack may wander around and explore the different areas. The "O" button opens doors and speaks to guards while the "X" button performs a little kick. If you kick a guard, he may say, "Stop That" or "What." Jack later joins Captain Ganz and Ridley in a small ceremony where the two new knights are inaugurated into the Radiata Knights. After the inauguration, Ganz takes Jack aside and teaches him the basics of sword fighting, defense, and the use of the Volty Blow which is a kicked-up thrust attack. Ganz will also teach Jack how to perform a counterattack after parrying a blow, how to use items, and give him details on status ailments and advice on floundering.

* The first mission for the Rose Cochon team (made up of Ganz, Jack, and Ridley) is a dwarf escort mission. When leaving for the assignment, the team is joined by a dunderhead named Clive who can eat and sleep but little else. Inside the castle, Lord Jasne is conspiring with a girl named Natalie when they are interrupted by Larks.

* Lord Jasne looks like the fat guy from Laurel & Hardy with red cheeks and nose, just like a drunk. At the first meeting, Ganz tells Jack that Ridley is Jasne's father. GanZ and Jack also have a joke at Jasne's expense.

* Once Jack and party leave the castle, their first couple of battles are against large ants. Notice that Ridley falls on her keister in each of the first few battles. Some knight.
