Update: February 7, 2007
«©NCSX» New orders are welcome for Hori's third (canonical, not chronological) Real Arcade Pro Joystick which uses the same form-factor and case of the other Real Arcade Pro sticks. Similar to earlier HRAPs, the new stick uses actual arcade buttons and a clicky Sanwa lollipop-style joystick to give gamers an authentic coin-op experience at home. A heavy duty base completes the package to give the controller a weight of nearly 6 lbs or 2600g.

The RAP3 features the same button arrangement found on the RAP2 with the eight standard buttons (face and trigger) in red and the START and SELECT buttons in a bright yellow patina. The RAP3 does away with the row of slide levers on the upper left corner of the stick which controlled rapid-fire on the RAP2. Hori uses a more elegant solution this time around and adds a "PS" button. The RAP3 connects to the PS3 by way of USB cable and the analog thumbsticks on the SixAxis controller may be emulated by toggling a slide lever which switches from D-pad, L-analog, or R-analog control. Preorders are shipping today and new orders are welcome.

NCS Product Notes
» Hori packages the RAP3 economically (read: poorly) inside the retail container. Egg carton cardboard is used to retain both sides of the heavy RAP3 which means that the joystick will see a good amount of bouncing while in transit. We don't understand the lack of care in packaging the sticks at the factory since an additional cardboard retainer would only cost about a dime. To alleviate this problem, we will add some additional bubble wrap inside the package to minimize the amount of movement while the stick is in transit.

» The dimensions of the joystick are 412 x 243 x 135mm or 16.22 x 9.56 x 5.31" so it'll cover your lap nicely. The base of the joystick is made of metal and the USB cable measures 3 meters or 9.84' which is adequate for our little game testing room.

» Please note that the HRAP3 ships in a box that triggers dimensional weight shipping charges of 18 lbs. As such, NCS recommends only shipping by UPS Ground within the United States and USPS Airmail for our international customers.

Top notch controller

Nice and sturdy joystick. I don't generally like sticks that use microswitches that click but the quality and control is better than anything out there including the Sega High Grade Stick. I'll live with the clicking. As long as you have the new PS3 firmware, the joystick will work with PS2 games. Thanks to NCS for shipping this out quickly and packing it professionally with enough padding in the box. When I got it, there was a dent on the side from UPS but it was packed well so there wasn't a problem.
