NCS Product Synopsis
Update: September 28, 2006
«©NCSX» The phenomenally successful Tetris brand has endured for over 2 decades and has appeared on nearly ever gaming console from the Famicom to the Xbox 360. When the Wii and PS3 are entrenched in the market, Tetris will conquer two more consoles. The game was conceived by Alexei Pajitnov in Russia way back in 1985 and NCS recalls an early licensed version on the C=64 and shareware on the PC. The rest is history.

Sega Ages 2500 includes three Tetris games and variants which were originally produced between 1988 and 1990. A new version of the game designed for the SA2500 release called Tetris New Century which is based on the System-16 version of the game. On the main menu, players may select from the following Tetris variants:

» Tetris - Classic version from the System-16, System-E, and Megadrive.
» Flashpoint - System-16 arcade version from Sega
» Bloxeed - System-18 arcade version from Sega
» Tetris New Century - New techniques to learn and master

NCS Game Notes
» Press START and the following options appear

● Tetris New Century
● Classic Games - Tetris, Bloxeed, Flash Point

Tetris New Century - Possible to play SINGLE GAME or VERSUS GAME for 2 players. The game retains the classic design of the System-16 version of Tetris with explosive sound effects when matches are made and new moves called T-Spin and Back-to-Back which refers to the line creation method. The T-Spin move refers to a sequence where a block is stacked down and then quickly rotated to fit perfectly in a crevice which would have been impossible to fit if it were dropped straight down.

» To slam a block down quickly, push up on the d-pad. The face buttons rotate the piece and pushing down on the d-pad sends the block moving dowards quicker.

» In the options menu, its possible to toggle on/off ghost pieces, set BGM, and change LOCKDOWN from classic to infinite modes. Ghost pieces refer to the semi-transparent "placeholders" that appear when a block is descending to give a player a visual on where it will be positioned. In our opinion, it's better toggled off since they can be distracting. Visualizing the blocks isn't that difficult.

» In the SINGLE Game, options are MARATHON, 40LINE, ULTRA, and EXTRA. Background graphics for the first level are of a Gila monster or a brown mountain with a monkey on it which slowly hunches up and down. Instead of offering encouragement when the blocks stack up against you, the monkey points and jeers at your horrendous performance. It shuts up however once the matches start being made. When you botch it up during a game, the monkey will also howl with laughter but if you build a 4line combo, something drops on the monkey which it deflects with an umbrella.

Game Modes:
Marathon................Endless mode
40line.....................Create 40 lines of Tetris blocks
Ultra.......................3 minutes to create as many lines as possible
Extra......................Higher difficulty level and background image changes

» Three BGM selections are available and may be selected before each game: Korobeiniki, Kalinka, and TNC Syncmix

» After each game, the tallies for Tetris (4 lines), T-spins, Back-to-Back, Lines/Minutes, and SCORES/Line are tallied along with the level, lines, time, and score.

» In the CLASSIC GAMES, Tetris has three versions - System 16 (coin-op), System E (coin-op), and MegaDrive versions which are selectable in the options menu. The MegaDrive Version is the best.

» Flash Point and Bloxeed are coin-op emulations.

» In Flash Point, the sole aim is to make a line with a shining jewel on the play board. In other words, its possible to throw blocks anywhere just to get the flash point line with the jewel which clears the entire board. A faster completion time means more bonus. System-16 version available.

» In Bloxeed, the basis is Tetris but with lines that rise up from the floor gradually and special power-ups and features such as bonus ships which can be used to shoot at blocks to get rid of them, bombs, and 16-ton weights that drop and clean entire columns of blocks away. System-18 version available.
