«©NCSX» For the children of Tatsumiya island, ignorance is bliss. Unbeknownst to them, most of the world has been destroyed but they live their lives unlabored by the thoughts of potential destruction. One day, children on a beach are listening to a radio when a voice asks "Are you there?" Not knowing any better, they answer in the affirmative...

Years pass without incident but harsh reality hits when powerful beings known as Festum discover the location of Tatsumiya and launch an attack. Although Tatsumiya island is cloaked from other humans and the Festum, the children's chorus to the radio alerted the invaders of their presence.

In the events of the television series, main characters Kazuki and Soushi take up the defense of the island by piloting a mighty mech warrior called a Fafner. Kazuki enters the Fafner and Soushi into the Siegfried system which is a remote co-pilot mechanism of sorts. In the PSP game, players take control of a Fafner and are sent on action-packed missions against various Festum in order to protect the island. Before each mission, a short briefing is played and then various equipment may be chosen to take into battle. Throughout a mission, communication flashes appear on the top of the screen which keeps one apprised of changing conditions or new objectives.

NCS Game Notes
* The dialogue in the game is entirely voiced to complement the text that appears in the conversation screens.

* The artist who draws the characters apparently enjoys scribbling a mess of lines underneath every character's eyes. Think of a mustache. Then think of that underneath EVERYONE's eyes. Even the girls can't escape the hair-under-eye affliction.

* The game starts off in the Kazuki's home but he soon wanders to school where he interacts with fellow classmates. After a while, a siren blares out and barriers rise from the ground outside. A teacher rushes in and tells everyone to retire to an underground bunker. Once there, tha secret of Tatsumiya island is revealed to the wide-eyed teenagers.

* The first mission puts Kazuki in a mech known as Fafner which speeds up when the "X" button is pressed. Slash with the "O" button or select another weapon by pressing "TRIANGLE." The D-pad is used for movement which feels awkward. We would have preferred the Analog pad but that's reserved for switching between camera angles. After visiting the weapon depot, motor out into the middle of the ocean and battle a Sphinx Type-A. The golden-colored foe attacks with a slash as well as ebon-stars which shoot out and expand into little spherical bombs.

* If using the Rail Gun against the Sphinx, make sure you're fairly close and lock on with the R-trigger to blast it. If you're too far away, you'll be wasting the limited amount of ammunition that's in the rail gun. The Sphinx is VERY EASY to beat. Just target it by pressing the R-trigger and then rush at it continuously by pressing right on the D-pad and swing away with the M.Blade. We sustained zero damage using this strategy since it can't lock onto you with its bomb attacks and it is defenseless against an aggressive Fafner.

* The second operation pits the Fafner against 3 Sphinx attackers. This mission is a little tricky because the three Sphinxes surround the Fafner and attack with their blasts. Before engaging the Sphinxes, you might also want to pick up a Long Sword from one of the weapon depots to improve your close range attacks.
