«©NCSX» Previous releases in the Valkyrie Profile series have placed gamers in the shoes of a Valkyrie. In Tri-Ace's NDS Valkyrie rendition, players take control of a warrior named Wylfred who's harboring a a reservoir of hate against the Valkyrie named Lenneth. Many years ago, Wylfred's father Thyodor was killed on the battlefield and his soul was taken by Lenneth so he could become an Einherjar. Wylfred's goal is to attain Einherjar status himself so he can settle things with Lenneth and perhaps the gods themselves.

Valkyrie Profile: Toga o Seoumono isn't anything like its predecessors. Tri-Ace eschews side-scrolling action in favor of a tactical RPG where turn-based conflicts are fitted between interactive sequences which move the story along. Wylfred starts the adventure with his friend Ancel and they're joined later by another kindred spirit named Ailyth.

Similar to other tactical RPGs such as Final Fantasy Tactics or Ogre Battle, the battle system is broken up into phases. There's a movement phase where a character is shuffled along a lit grid which marks availabole range of movement. The next phase is the attack/action phase where an enemy may be attacked or an item used. NDS Valkyrie Profile allows diagonal attacks so that your party can surround an enemy from eight directions if necessary.

Bonus Schwag
Early preorders will ship with a bonus Valkyrie Profile hardcover booklet in 25% ratio. The first part of the book features character profiles and artwork while the second part is a short story (in Japanese) titled "the Beginning: Another Story of Valkyrie Profile -Covenant of the Plume-" which spans the rest of the book's pages.

Region-Free
Japanese NDS games may be played on North American and European NDS handhelds. There is no region-coding on Nintendo DS game cards.

NCS Game Notes
» Voice acting accompanies the dialogue in the game. There's also canned laughter after the completion of the first stage that sounds like it was sampled in high fidelity.
» After leveling up, all HP is recovered. Characters will leap upwards during the short level-up ceremony.
» To swivel the camera around the battlefield, press the L or R triggers on the Nintendo DS handheld.
