NCS Product Synopsis
Update: February 8, 2006

«©NCSX» Detective Kyouichirou Soraku is a hack... with potential. All of 21 years old, Kyouichi lacks initiative and usually settles for smaller sleuthing jobs such as locating a pet cat or tracking down a missing bicycle. However, there are times when Kyouichi finds himself tackling substantial challenges when the occasion arises. A hefty retainer also helps to goad the slacker into working...

The latest interactive detective game from Idea Factory's IF MATE brand places Kyouichirou Soraku on assignment aboard a luxury cruise liner. If Kyouichi only had to deal with the comely women on board, life would be peachy but high seas and henchmen conspire to create a situation that might endanger the entire ship. In addition to Kyouichirou's detective work, he also works on the ship's maidens to possibly romance them into submission. Following the formula of previous Tantei Souraku Kyouichirou games, five sleuthing scenarios must be solved which are all tied to each other and eventually offer clues to solve the overall adventure.

The limited edition of Yamiya ni Sasayaku includes a bonus soundtrack and a novella subtitled "Event of the Dark Sea" which is packaged with the game in a special box.

NCS Game Notes
» The interaction is played on static screens with dialogue underneath. To examine a room, a magnifying glass appears where items may be inspected. As you maneuver the magnifier over an object, a targeting scope appears which gives details of interest on the item or activates interactive objects such as a phone. Some objects such as a bureau or a piece of furniture might contain items that can be recovered and used in the adventure. Kyouichirou may also find items that are tucked inside a trash basket or other unassuming scene prop. A roster of characters that you've met in the game may also be reviewed to retrieve any conversations and/or observations that they've made.

» Nana Mizuki sings the theme song, Super Generation.
» In the intro to the game, detective Kyouichirou Soraku is introduced in orange shirt and purple tie followed by cohorts and supporting cast. The images consists of video stills taken from the game and are commingled in a sort of slow motion video accompanied by the title track. There's a group shot of every major character in the game and intro ends followed by the copyright notice and the title screen.

» Press Start and the following options appear: NEW GAME / LOAD GAME / OPTIONS / GALLERY.

» The gallery mode allows the viewing of artwork that is unlocked during the course of the game. At the outset, there is nothing viewable - just black squares waiting to be opened up.

» Start a game and the view opens up on a dark street where detective Kyouichirou is hiding behind a wall with a look of consternation about him. Footsteps clack on the sidewalk and leads to an encounter... In the next scene, he enters a bar and another encounter takes place with the barkeep who takes an extreme measure to get his point across.

» Fed up with the sordid life of private detective work, Kyouichirou wakes up in a luxury cruise ship and is greeted by an effeminate sailor and a hostess. After making his way to the deck, he encounters and chats up two ladies who are relaxing but the hostess accosts him for bothering the ship's guests...

» The dialogue in the game is accompanied by voice acting but the main character's dialogue is never spoken. Just read what Kyouichirou says.

» Yamiya ni Sasayaku is an interactive detective game which contains copious amount of reading and a little bit of interaction at the outset as the story is developed. Once the meat of the game starts, the adventure becomes a full blown detective game with interrogation, sleuthing, and other detective tricks of the trade. To add action to the static pictures that make up the bulk of the game, camera focusing, jarring screen jitters, and other effects are used to add a little bit of dynamism to the otherwise staid presentation.

» To save your progress at any point in the game, hit the TRIANGLE button and select the first option. Up to 12 save slots may be stored to a memory card.
